Musical

Role: Gypsy Rose Lee

February House, an inventive new musical by acclaimed composer and songwriter Gabriel Kahane, hailed as “one of the finest songwriters of the day” by The New Yorker, transforms a dilapidated Brooklyn boardinghouse into a bohemian commune. During the early days of World War II, flamboyant fiction editor George Davis brings together poet W. H. Auden, novelist Carson McCullers, composer Benjamin Britten, and burlesque darling Gypsy Rose Lee in a communal utopian experiment. Based on the biography by Sherill Tippins, February House looks at how the residents of 7 Middagh Street create a tumultuous and remarkable makeshift family searching for love, inspiration, and refuge from the looming war in Europe.

The last resident to move in was Gypsy Rose Lee (Arwen-Vira Marsh, adorably campy with a lot of moxie).”

“The 1940s-esque musical numbers give all actors the chance to entertain, but no one shines quite like Communication senior Arwen-Vira Marsh as Gypsy Rose Lee, a performer and writer. Marsh delivers a dazzling solo performance (costume change included) that provides a much-needed pick-up to a lull in the show.”
